Estinext – Smart Home Mobile App

Overview

Estinext is a smart home mobile app designed to pair with and control a wide range of custom-built IoT devices — including lights, sensors, thermostats, and more.

The goal was to create an intuitive, distraction-free UI that translated complex device commands into clear, user-friendly interactions. The app needed to display real-time device status, allow configuration of advanced settings, and give users seamless control over their smart environment.

Design Process Summary

1. Technical Discovery

• The project started with briefs and deep-dive sessions with the CTO, who was also the hardware engineer
• I learned how each device worked at a low level — what signals were being sent, what settings existed, and what mattered most to users
• The challenge was converting raw technical functionality into logical, understandable interface patterns

2. Wireframes & Interaction Mapping

• Sketched wireframes for each device type and its unique settings screen
• Mapped out user flows for pairing, status display, and control
• Conducted review sessions with engineers to validate UX logic

3. UI Design

• Designed minimal, sleek interfaces that reflected the simplicity of modern smart devices
• Focused on clear status visibility, tactile feedback, and effortless setting adjustments
• Used color, iconography, and layout to reduce cognitive load
• Created high-fidelity screens in Adobe XD

Final Designs

Outcome

• Designed a modular UI system that adapted to different device types
• Ensured users could view and change device status without confusion
• Achieved clarity through clean visuals and logical layout — with positive feedback from the dev team and CTO
